Rise early and prepare to conquer the challenging ascent to Warmiwañusca, affectionately known as Dead Woman’s Pass, standing at an elevation of 4,198m (13,769 ft). Embark on a journey through progressively spectacular and steeper terrain, facing the elements of strong Andean weather, from blazing sun to cold winds, as you approach the pass. Take your time on the hike, staying hydrated and savoring the breathtaking views that await you as your reward. Resume your Hike
Embark on another day of adventure, traversing two more mountain passes and ancient ruins along the trail. Begin with the ascent to Runquraqay Pass, standing at an elevation of 3,950m (13,113 ft), where clear skies offer glimpses of the majestic Cordillera Vilcabamba. Journey through the mystical cloud forest, ascending gently to the second pass of the day, adorned with original Incan constructions, reaching a height of 3,700m (12,136 ft). On a clear day, be rewarded with awe-inspiring views of the Urubamba Valley below. Descend to the ruins of Phuyupatamarca, known as the "town above the clouds," nestled at an elevation of 3,650m (11,972 ft). Choose to camp here or continue onwards for another 1.5 hours to the Wiñay Wayna ruins, aptly named "forever young," situated at 2,650m (8,694 ft). With fingers crossed for clear skies, anticipate catching the first breathtaking views of the iconic ruins of Machu Picchu as the sun begins to rise over the Andes.
